this just in (4 days ago)...

On June 10, 1973, Bud Styple shot some 8mm film of GD with his Super 8 camera. This silent 4-minute film clip of his just surfaced on YouTube a few days ago. This was recently pointed out in a post on Lossless Legs.

Bud Styple's film captures some notable pieces of history:
a) Hippies! Lots of them! I resemble that! No more Hippies - they're gone. Throw the baby out with the bathwater. (Throw the GD tapes out with their culture and rich history.)

b) VW campers in the parking lot scene. Lots of them! That's how I did it! (moved around a lot, quickly paid back my student loans, and lived an independent lifestyle). I drove VW bugs from 1974 until 1982. One of my best friends had a VW camper during this same period. VWs were simple, cheap, affordable, reliable, efficient, and easy to maintain. Modern cars are completely unmaintainable due to complex electronics & proprietary s/w codes, not to mention, they are completely unaffordable.

c) FOB shots of stage. Bud's location is to the left of center. He's way up front, possibly a few feet up from where I was taping from. My FOB location was to the right of Bud's location, out of frame. His film shows another Taper's mic on a pole. Is that Bill Gadsden's rig? Bill circulated a partial tape of June 10, and I circulated the entire weekend. Both of us circulated our tapes independently on the internet about 3½ years ago. Bill Gadsden and I are complete strangers. The other thing we had in common was the GD Broom Closet tapes, from Fillmore East, April 26 - 29, 1971.

At LL, Rob Berger said, "I just read a book about the Allman Bros and these shows are discussed. Seems that the Dead's crew dosed ABB and their whole crew." Another LL guy named gyro said, "I didn't see the GD until '76, but many of my high school buddies attended RFK that weekend... they went to see the Allman Brothers and came home deadheads." It was also mentioned that a widely circulated GD Poster came out with a pic of GD on stage from June 10. A guy at LL named Levi501 commented that he still had this GD Poster on the wall of his garage. So he took a pic of it and uploaded it.

I put a copy of this image and a copy of Bud's film clip on the Archive in my collection for the Sunday June 10 show. Visit my Taper's web page for GD & ABB at RFK Stadium on June 9 & 10, 1973.

Holy cow! I saw this poster on a friends college dorm room wall in the mid-seventies and have not seen it since. I've always wondered why I've never found it again, ie reproduced in a book, etc. ....
It was very striking at the time, as I'd never seen Jerry in pigtails and Phil's hat (which I remembered more as a straw hat) reminded me of the one worn by the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. Hence I always figured this was one of the those Iowa shows (5/73 or 6/74), as it was obviously an outdoor gig and scarecrows summon up visions certainly of more rural environments than DC!
Thanks so much for posting it. So good to run into this old friend again after so long.
